题目解析：此题需要你分享背景经历。题目给了四个方向，即background（背景）、identity（身份）、interest（兴趣）和talent（天赋）。不论选择哪个角度，这个经历都需要是meaningful的。所以重点不在于这个经历有多么大或者多么特别，只要它对你有着某种意义，就可以分享出来，比如塑造了你的性格。在思考素材的时候，不妨反向思考一下自己的标签是什么。用几个关键词来总结自己，然后在头脑中搜寻和这些标签有关的经历，以及这些经历给你带来的影响和感悟。这就是有意义的经历。

题目解析：这道题明显比第一题更加具体，逻辑在于描述一个你遇到的困难或挫折、你从失败中学到了什么、这一失败的经验是如何帮助你取得成功的。也就是obstacle-lesson-success。文章的重点在于你学到了什么，切记长篇叙述你的失败经历。对于失败的经历，只需介绍清楚时间、事件即可。
此题不建议用考试/比赛/竞选失利的例子，因为用这种例子的申请者太多了，能拿出来写的点也无非就是坚持不懈、遇到困难不气馁之类的，属于浅层思考。建议往人生经验上靠，且不用过分强调你最终成功与否，经历也不需要是很重大的。你真的获得了感悟，真的成长了，就是有意义的失败。
3. Reflect on a time when you questionedor challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was theoutcome?
题目解析：不少同学都不选择这道题，因为对于questionor challenge a belief or idea不太能理解。中国学生普遍缺乏critical thinking，这就是大家不会回答这道题的原因。而这道题恰巧就是在考察这点。通常这种质疑和挑战涉及到价值观问题。价值观不同，自然会有冲突，反之亦然。但是不必全盘否定某一beliefof idea，也不一定最终挑战成功了。只要展现出你的个性即可。
尽量避免涉及到敏感话题，不要评判别人的宗教信仰或政治选择。
4. Describe a problem you've solvedor a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, aresearch query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, nomatter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took orcould be taken to identify a solution.
题目解析：描述一个你已经解决或者想要解决的问题。这个problem的选择范围很广，大到社会问题，小到你个人遇到的问题。在选择素材的过程中，重点在于这个problem对你的意义，即你为什么要解决这个问题，以及你是如何解决的。旨在向招生官展示你能够发现问题、分析问题，并解决问题。
虽然题目中用的动词是describea problem，但是更应该analyze这个problem。最后还可以加上通过解决这个问题，你的收获和感悟。
5. Discuss an accomplishment, event,or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understandingof yourself or others.
题目解析：此题重点在于个人成长(personalgrowth)和新的认知（a newunderstanding of yourself or others）。这个经历一定是见证了你的成长，使你对自身、对他人、对这个世界有了更深的理解。
这个经历不一定是积极向上的，也可以是你走的一段人生的弯路。重点不在于这个事情，而在于这件事对你成长的影响。
6. Describe a topic, idea, or conceptyou find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does itcaptivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
题目解析：什么样的事情能makesyou lose all track of time呢?一定是你非常感兴趣的事情。通过这道题，招生官想要了解你是否是一个有热情的、有好奇心的学生。核心在于热衷什么、为什么热衷、以及如何深入挖掘更多。
不要选择过于具体的爱好。题目中用的topic,idea, concept都是比较抽象的概念，旨在引导学生对自己感兴趣的某个话题进行探讨。题目非常宽泛，topic,idea, concept不限大小。其实越是宽泛的题目，有时越是难写，同学们要好好思考一下，注意文章的思想深度。
7. Share an essay on any topic ofyour choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to adifferent prompt, or one of your own design.
题目解析：完全开放式自命题。虽说是sharean essay on any topic，但可万万不要真的分享一篇诗歌或其他创意作品，也不要po上一篇论文了事。
招生官想要更加了解你，一个立体的你。所以要确保这篇Essay可以展示你的某种性格、价值观、个性等。而且必须是前面6个题目都没有涉及到的部分。
