德克萨斯大学达拉斯分校是德克萨斯大学体系中的一所公立研究型大学。学校成立于1969年，以商学、计算机科学、建筑学、认知科学和数学而著称。其中又以其Jindal管理学院（Naveen Jindal School of Management）最富盛名。德克萨斯大学学生人数为20000人，其中本科生12600人；研究生7400人；博士生1200人，国际学生比例为3.8%。德克萨斯大学达拉斯分校不仅是全德州公立大学体系内录取分数最高的学校，还是全国排名前20的公立大学。

德克萨斯大学地处DFW（由达拉斯与沃斯堡、阿灵顿组成的达拉斯-沃斯堡大都会，将其称为DFW）工业区，离达拉斯市中心仅18英里。DFW是美国近二十年兴起的都市圈，名列全美第四。与所有在工业革命中兴起的学校一样，德克萨斯大学的高速发展依托着强大稳定的区域经济实力。校园旁一条南北方向的75号高速公路横穿达拉斯。在这条高速公路的两边，散落着一栋栋低矮的厂房和科技园园区，其中驻扎着AT&T、阿尔卡特，华为（约有600 多人）、中兴（约有200多人）等鼎鼎大名的电信厂商。因此，这一带也被称为"通信走廊"。德克萨斯大学的校园就与他们比邻而居。目前，德克萨斯州已经成为全美拥有世界500强总部数量最多的州。

达拉斯市，很多人只知道这是肯尼迪总统被刺杀的地方，以及NBA小牛队的所在。其实这是一个以石油与高科技在八十年代新兴的城市，很多公司将公司总部设在这里：Fortune 500 强今年的第一埃克森美孚（Exxon Mobil）总部就在达拉斯机场边上，位于学校边上的有信息技术集成商EDS（外包业务营业额仅次于IBM，可惜去年被HP 购并），百货公司J.C.Penny；全球第三大半导体厂商德州仪器(TI)；其他还有Affiliated Computer Svcs；Alliance DataSystems；Kimberly-Clark，西南航空，TXU, Dean Foods, Tenet Healthcare 都将总部设在达拉斯。同时，达拉斯也是美联储联邦准备银行中的一员。2009 年Dallas的房地产在全美20个大城市中跌幅最低，仅轻微调低1个百分点。
