阿肯色大学建立于1871年，简称UA或者UARK，是一所位于美国中南部的公立综合性研究型大学，也是整个阿肯色州的旗舰大学。阿肯色大学主校设于阿肯色州西北的小城费耶特维尔市，另有位于小石城等地的分校。该学校吉祥物为Razorback（刺背野猪）。

截至2010年的统计，全校目前的在校学生约21,406人，其中来自海外的学生约为1,178人。全校共有全职教师接近900人，其中90%拥有博士或相关研究领域最高级别学术资格。阿肯色大学提供的课程，涵盖了自然科学、工程科学、音乐、农学、生命科学、商科、建筑、法律、教育、艺术与人文等多个研究领域。其中，学校在建筑、农学、商科、历史、工业工程、中东研究等领域的研究在全美享有盛誉。美国前总统克林顿及现任国务卿希拉里在步入政坛前均执教于该校法学院。阿肯色大学曾经获得来自沃尔玛的山姆沃顿家族高达3亿美元的单比捐赠，创下了有史以来美国公立大学接受捐赠的最高记录。

阿肯色大学百分之九十二的教师拥有博士或其各自专业领域的最高级别学位。其中包括许多世界一流的研究人员和教授。一个世纪以来，无数知名的教授学者曾在此执鞭任教。如美国前总统克林顿以及现任国务卿希拉里，早年均为在阿肯色大学法学院的教师。此外比如建筑大师费依·琼斯，舞蹈家Eleanor King，诗人米勒·威廉斯，曾提出自裂变反应理论的核化学家黑田和夫，治疗帕金森综合症的生物传感器的发明人Vijay Varadan、曾获得国际量子分子科学院奖的量子化学家Peter Pulay等等著名学者，均先后执教于阿肯色大学。闻名世界的福布莱特（富布赖特）计划和福布莱特基金会，就由前阿肯色大学校长威廉·富布莱特提议创立，并以他的名字命名。

阿肯色大学所在的费耶维尔市位于美国中南部，是一个充满浓郁美国南方特色的宁静小城。该市风景优美，空气清新，森林密布，拥有洁净的溪水湖泊，历年来多次被各种媒体评为全美最适合居住的城市。全城人口不到7万人，绝大部分人口为基督教新教教徒，淳朴的民风使得当地的犯罪率低到几乎可以忽略不计。全城最大的雇主为阿肯色大学。费耶维尔市政府还与阿肯色大学联合投资了阿肯色科技园，为小城提供了大量就业机会。费耶维尔是阿肯色西北部地区的经济中心，在美国福布斯杂志2009"美国最佳商业及工作城市"排行榜中位列全美第4，2%的失业率也是全美最低的。费耶维尔所在的阿肯色西北地区被一系列大型企业所围绕，包括世界最大的企业沃尔玛的全球总部、世界500强食品企业泰森食品的全球总部。全美国最大的物流公司JB Hunt的总部也位于该地区，这都为阿肯色大学提供了充分的发展资源。
